Property Sales
I am interested in buying railroad property. Which application form should I use? There is no application form for property sales. Please refer to the property sales section of this site and the system map. First, you must determine if the property belongs to NS, then you will contact the agent responsible for the territory in which the property is located. Contact the agent responsible for the territory you are interested in by following the instructions detailed in Sales. Is there a multi-listing or inventory of all NS properties? NS has thousands of parcels of land whose availability changes based on operating needs. We do not maintain a public multi-listing record of our properties. If there is a specific parcel(s) in which you are interested, please contact the appropriate Property Agent. How can I buy an old railroad building or structure like a depot? Follow the instructions detailed in Sales. Inquiries to lease or purchase a depot should be directed to the appropriate Property Agent. Once contacted, the Property Agent will investigate with the related departments of Norfolk Southern to determine the availability of the depot. How can I obtain a copy of the deed to a piece of railroad property? We are unable to provide research services or data on such properties. These title questions may be answered by searching local county records, retaining a title company, or by contacting a real estate professional to examine a title. How do I obtain a hiking or biking trail along the railroad? Due to its concern for the added risks and hazards associated with the increased pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic moving adjacent to, or across active railroad tracks, the railroad will not donate, sell, lease or grant easements along its operating corridors or other property located on or adjacent to operating corridors for pedestrian walking/hiking/jogging trails, bikeway paths, parks or other recreational uses. NS does not participate in Rails With Trails, but on a select basis, we do participate in Rails To Trails. Please also see information on our Abandoned Track Right-of-Way. How do I know if this is NS property? You can determine which RR owns the property by going to the nearest crossing and looking for the identification tag or marker that indicates railroad ownership. |
